Hollywood, CA: The coronavirus pandemic has made the virtual world increasingly important as people work and attend school through their computers. With the curtailing of galleries and museum programming, the quarantine has also forced artists to think of new ways to present their work.  Coincidentally, the sophisticated technology to dynamically  experience a digital art exhibition is now available to artists and gallerists.  Dellamarie Parrilli's solo exhibition, Up Close & Colorful, curated by KTC Affiliated Artists, creates a virtual experience of a three-dimensional art exhibit with the illusion of 20 foot high ceilings and over 180 running feet of gallery space - well-suited for Parrilli's large, gestural abstract canvases.

The paintings of Dellamarie Parrilli, a particularly cheerful variant on abstract expressionism, look to bright colors, often primary, that are merged in forms that are resolutely nonobjective. A restless and intrepid experimenter, it is Parrilli's prior extensive background in music and dance that is reflected in her work. She has transformed her creativity for expression from the stage to the studio from her own unique perspective and energetic vision. Art writer Jonathan Goodman observes: "her art looks to an implicit merger between individualized components of painting and the nearly excessive beauty of nature."

Each of Parrilli's dynamic paintings is a demonstration of how resilient the human spirit can be, and how, even in the face of great hardship and constraints, beauty can grow. The uniting energy behind each of the artworks in Up Close & Colorful is the emotional difficulties of quarantine. But far from being withdrawn and introspective, these paintings prove that the human spirit can go on, no matter what challenges and hardships are thrown its way. Parrilli is telling us that, although we might have been limited, we found new ways to be infinite. The fact that much of this was accomplished through digital technology adds another layer to the art, and it seems only fitting that it can now be enjoyed world-wide via computers and phones.

Dellamarie Parrilli has exhibited her work extensively throughout the US, having been the subject of solo and two-person exhibitions at the Palmer Gallery, Chicago; Walter Wickiser Gallery, New York; Ezair Gallery, New York; Marymount College, New York; and Preston Contemporary Art Center, New Mexico. She has also participated in juried and invitational group exhibitions at the Florence Biennial of Contemporary Art, Florence, Italy; Hunter Museum of Art, Chattanooga, TN; and Cork Gallery, New York. Parrilli is represented in numerous public and private collections including those of DePaul University, Chicago; and Cabrini Medical Center, New York. She is a member of organizations including the Chicago Artists Coalition, National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, and Allied Artists of America.
